A buyer was convinced something was “missing” after transferring their material 🤯

They bought 3g, used a pipette carefully — then weighed 2.85g. “Where did it go?”

We call it skin loss: the thin film of material that clings to bottles, pipettes and droppers. Even in a professional lab, 100% recovery isn’t possible.

At 1–3g that film is a larger percentage of your total; at bigger volumes it becomes a smaller percentage.

Imagine buying fragrance oil (Pati) for your perfume business.

A: RM400/kg, needs 50% concentration and still doesn’t last — so you add 10% fixative at RM500/kg.

B: RM300/kg, performs at only 25%, no fixative needed.

Which one is actually more expensive?

A question from our Olfactory Intelligence class:

“If a perfume is never opened, why does it still expire?”

A factory seal only slows degradation; it doesn’t stop it.

Oxygen is trapped during bottlingResidual air starts oxidising fragrance molecules from the moment it’s sealed.

Heat and UV cause breakdownTemperature changes and light alter aromatic compounds over time.
